Dear Friend,

First of all, thank you to everyone who has so generously responded to our sustaining donor appeal so far. You are investing in the future of the library and helping to guarantee that it will be here to serve Waynesboro and surrounding areas in all the ways you and your family need.

I know you are all getting very tired of being cooped up and away from family and friends. We feel that way at the library too. We all long for the day when we can go back to some kind of “normal” without being afraid of this virus which continues to claim lives all over the country.

In mid-July we will begin a gradual reopening, being careful to protect our staff and you as much as possible, we will begin to let patrons back into the library on a limited basis. We will also continue curb-side pickup for reserved items. Our programs will remain largely online programs as we look forward to the day when there is a vaccine and we can have the big “in person “programs and interactions we all miss so much.

In the meantime, thanks to your support, we are continuing to buy new books and DVDs and put together STEAM kits to be picked up for at home fun. While the weather is good, we are also planning new outside programs like drive –in movies, gardening classes for the youngest patrons and outside eSport fun for older kids in the back courtyard.

In other words, we are still here. And we are constantly trying to find new ways to entertain and educate everyone in Waynesboro safely and above all, for free!

A lot of you have become avid eBook readers during the quarantine, borrowing books from Overdrive and Hoopla on our website. More of you have discovered a way to entertain your kids by watching YouTube and Facebook story time and joining in on STEAM activities online and , for Teens the Discord site.

We hope to soon add podcast discussion groups, online book clubs, and other group meetings allowing people with common interests to get together at a safe distance.

For kids and young adults we want to support eSports team competition encouraging kids with their own devices to come to the back of the library and play each other. Those without devices of their own can sign out our iPads and laptops for a couple of hours during the games. We now have Wi-Fi throughout the back parking lots.

If you haven’t already, please consider donating now. Every dollar donated by a Sustaining Donor is being matched this year up to $100,000!

Where will your money be spent?
In order to maintain an excellent collection and keep the children and adults of our community reading, we are starting our first ever sustaining donor campaign, inviting everyone who uses or benefits from the library to make a donation of as little as $6.00 a month. Your donation could increase our collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and even go to support program supplies for our programs for toddlers, children and teens, or our family-focused events, tea parties, speakers for adult education, software instruction, Makerspace instructors and equipment, and so much more.

Simply choose your level, sign up, and we’ll put a bookplate honoring your name into a book each month that you’ve supported us. Each time someone opens a book with your nameplate, they’ll know you cared enough to help sustain our library.

Additionally, the library will indicate the book was bought with your donation by putting a star next to the title on our New Titles List on the website and in the library.

  • $6.00 a month could buy a paperback edition of either a children’s book or an adult title such as Christian Fiction or a board book for a baby. It could also fund supplies for Music and Movement.

  • $11.00 a month could buy an audiobook or a picture book for a beginning reader or support CAD software or a trainer to teach resume writing, job hunting and job interviewing

  • $18.00 a month could buy a cookbook, a business title, a gardening title or a “how to” title or help fund the drive in movie or bring in  experts on all topics speaking on everything from  pain management to Civil War history

  • $24.00 a month could buy a hardcover title like a mystery or a general fiction book. It could also support Girls Who Code and Minecraft Coding instructors.

  • $30.00 a month could buy a reference book about history, grammar, inventions, exam prep, first aid or a pocket encyclopedia. It could also buy supplies for the makerspace from yarn for the fiber arts area to filament for the 3D printer.

Your donations are crucial to the library and I will continue to update you on how the money is being spent.

Thank you and know that you are keeping the public library alive and growing for future generations.

Make this part of your legacy.
